Title: Data Engineer
Location: Bedford, NH (1hr from Boston)
Duration: 6 month contract, extendable
Summary:
As a key member of our client's team, you will be integral in building new analytical solutions. These solutions are an integral part of key business functions like Actuarial, Finance, Acquisitions, Claims, Reinsurance and other key areas. As we transition our Architecture we will leverage a more diverse technology stack such as Azure, AWS, SQL Server, Spark, Hadoop and beyond. Developing and scaling these big data technologies are a core part of our daily job. The ideal candidate for this position will be able think outside of the box and should have passion for building analytical solutions to enable business in making time sensitive and critical decisions.
Essential Functions:
- Design and build data structures on MPP platforms like Azure, AWS, Spark and Hadoop to provide efficient reporting and analytics capability
- Design and build highly scalable data pipelines using new generation tools and technologies like Spark, Kafka to induct data from various systems
- Experience designing rich websites, web-based applications
- Microsoft SQL Server, knowledge of web services, web API, n-tier architecture
- Contributes to logical and physical data modeling with tools such as Erwin, Embarcadero, or Visio.
- Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer (preferred not required).
- Translate complex business requirements into scalable technical solutions meeting data design standards
- Strong understanding of analytics needs and proactive-ness to build generic solutions to improve the efficiency
- Build dashboards using Self-Service tools like PowerBI and perform data analysis to support business
- Collaborate with multiple cross functional teams and work on solutions which has larger impact on our client's business
- Deploy, visualize and or communicate key insights
- Organize and synthesize data into actionable business decisions

Required Skills:
- In-depth understanding of data structures and algorithms
- Experience in designing and building dimensional data models to improve accessibility, efficiency, and quality of data
- Database development experience with Relational or MPP/distributed systems such as SQL Server/Oracle/Spark/Hadoop preferred
- Programming experience in building high quality software. Skills with Java, Python, R or Scala preferred
- Experience in designing and developing ETL data pipelines. Should be proficient in writing Advanced SQL queries
- Expertise in performance tuning of SQL queries
- Demonstrate strong understanding of development processes and agile methodologies
- Strong analytical and communication skills
- Self-driven, highly motivated and ability to learn quick
- Experience with or advance courses on data science and machine learning is a plus
- Work/project experience with big data and advanced programming languages is a plus
- Experience developing Big Data/Hadoop applications using java, R, Python, Spark, Hive, Oozie, Kafka, and Map Reduce is a huge plus
Experience / Required Education:
- 5+ years' industry experience is preferred
- BA/BS in computer science or related field, or equivalent work history
